ATEP Goals and Objectives

Consistent with the Mission and Goals of Greensboro College, the Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) is an academic curriculum that seeks to develop students through a balanced emphasis on the liberal arts, professional education and clinical practice.

 

Objectives

In order to meet the above mission, the Athletic Training Education Program will work towards the following objectives:

  1. Provide students with numerous opportunities to understand and appreciate the roles and responsibilities of a certified athletic trainer including:

    a. An overall understanding of the NATA structure (National, District and State levels)

    b. Encourage participation in those organizations.

    c. An overall understanding of the accreditation process (CAATE, NATA Education Council)

    d. Familiarity with the current Role Delineation Study and the certification examination as published by the BOC Inc.

    e. Exposing students to the various responsibilities of certified athletic trainers in a wide variety of settings through structured clinical education experiences.

 

  1. Provide a comprehensive educational experience, which includes classroom instruction, clinical education and practical field experience that is:

    a. Academically challenging and encourages critical thinking.

    b. Incorporates the Athletic Training Educational Competencies

    c. Provides for learning over time.

    d. Can assist students in achieving post graduation goals.

    e. Meets or exceeds the Standards and Guidelines established by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE)

 

  1. Enable students to develop a personal and professional philosophy and career plan:

    a. Encourage students to network with other certified athletic trainers

    b. Incorporate teachings of a variety of instructors.

    c. Encourage self reflection in their professional practice and scholarly development.

    d. Utilize learning experiences to develop critical thinking skills.

 

  1. Instill a sense of responsibility for students to follow the NATA Code of Ethics and professional standards.

    a. Provide students with NATA Code of Ethics and Statement on Professional Behavior Expectations as published in the Greensboro College Athletic Training Education Program Student Handbook.

    b. Hold students accountable for their actions (Program Violation, Program Probation, Program Suspension) in both academic and clinical settings.

    c. Provide students with frequent feedback and evaluation of areas of strength as well as areas of concern.

    d. Provide students with leadership opportunities, civic engagement and a sense of responsibility to serve their community.
