Entrance Requirements for Students Seeking Transfer

Each transfer student will be evaluated on an individual basis according to the amount of college level athletic training course work and experience he/she has undertaken. If a transfer student has no athletic training experience, he/she will be required to follow the entrance requirements for traditional students listed above.

A transfer student with sufficient athletic training experience may be admitted to the Athletic Training Education Program on a probationary contract. Students seeking advanced placement must submit a transfer student application and all associated materials by August 1 for the fall semester and December 1 for the spring semester. Areas that will be evaluated include:

  • overall GPA,
  • courses taken which include NATA Education Council Educational Competencies,
  • recommendation from a supervising Certified Athletic Trainer, and
  • clinical education experience.

Transfer students desiring advanced placement status within the Athletic Training Education Program will be required to demonstrate satisfactory completion of athletic training education courses with a grade of C- or better. Applicants will also be required to provide documentation from the transfer institution indicating proficiency of clinical skills at the time of application (see Athletic Training Education Program Student Handbook).

Policy on Participation in Intercollegiate Athletics

Student-athletes pursuing the Bachelors of Science degree in athletic training and wish to pursue certification through the Board of Certification, Inc. (BOC) will be required to meet the appropriate requirements listed above and additionally, must read and sign the Policy on Student Participation in Intercollegiate Athletics.

The complete policy can be found in the Student Handbook but the basic requirements are that the student athlete: (1) must limit participation to one sport and only participate during that sport’s traditional season, and (2) may have to remain in school beyond four years to fulfill the requirements of the Athletic Training Education Program. Student-athletes are advised that athletic training is a rigorous, time-consuming program and all students admitted to the Athletic Training Education Program will adhere to the same academic standards.

Application Procedures:

Students currently enrolled at Greensboro College must submit formal application for admission to the Athletic Training Education Program upon completion of program entrance requirements.

Students desiring acceptance into the Athletic Training Education Program must complete the following prerequisite courses with a grade of “C-“ or better:

  • BIO 1100 - General Biology I and Laboratory (4 hours) OR
  • BIO 1300 - introduction to Animal Biology and Laboratory (4);
  • KIN 1100 - Personal Fitness and Wellness (4);
  • ATH 1100 - Prevention and Care of Emergencies and Athletic Injuries (4); and
  • ATH 1150 - Basic Skills in Athletic Training (2).

The selection committee meets twice annually (end of the Spring semester and end of the summer term) and consists of the Athletic Training Education Program Director, Clinical Coordinator, and a faculty/staff representative.

Once all applications have been received and past academic information verified, the selection committee will review all applications and schedule formal interviews. The formal interviews will occur during the last week of the Spring semester and summer term.

Upon completion of the semester, the Registrar will verify all current grades. Applicants will be notified by May 31st, August 10th or December 31st regarding admittance status: full, probationary, or denied. Students meeting all application criteria may be denied admission to the Athletic Training Education Program due to limited enrollment spaces in the program.

Applicants may be admitted with probationary status. This may occur when a qualified applicant may not have fulfilled one of the admission requirements. Applicants who have been admitted on probation will sign a contract stating the specific time period to fulfill the incomplete requirement or they will be denied full admittance. Students who have been denied acceptance may continue with observation hours, address program deficiencies and await available space in the program. Applicants notified of full admittance must maintain the program policies outlined in the following section of the Catalog.
